Terms of Service

Last updated: 10 May 2026

These are the terms for using FileHook. We've kept them short and plain — the goal is a service you can trust, not a wall of boilerplate.

The service

FileHook is a free, browser-based PDF editor. You upload a PDF, edit it in your browser, and download the result. Files are deleted from short-term storage within two hours.

Who can use it

Anyone with a modern browser. No account, no signup. By using the service you confirm you're old enough to enter into a contract in your jurisdiction (typically 13+, or higher in some places).

Your content

You keep ownership of every PDF you upload and every edit you make. We don't claim any rights over your content. We don't use it to train models, generate datasets, or anything else beyond giving it back to you.

You agree not to upload content that's illegal, infringes someone else's rights, contains malware, or is intended to harm others. We reserve the right to delete uploads and block access if we have reason to believe the service is being abused.

Limits

  • Up to 50 MB per file.
  • Up to 200 pages per document.
  • Editing is for text-based PDFs. Scanned image PDFs aren't supported until OCR ships.
  • We may apply rate limits to prevent abuse. Normal individual use won't hit them.

Service is provided "as is"

FileHook is provided as-is, with no warranty of any kind. We try hard to keep editing faithful to your original document, but we can't guarantee perfect output for every PDF — there are weird old PDFs in the wild, and we'll occasionally encounter ones we can't parse cleanly.

Always keep a copy of the original file before you edit. We don't store your file long enough to act as a backup.

Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, FileHook and its operators are not liable for indirect or consequential damages arising from use of the service. If a court decides we are liable, the maximum total liability is capped at $10 (US) per user — this is a free service, not a warranty contract.

Changes to the service

We may add features, change UI, adjust limits, or take the service down for maintenance without notice. We aim not to break existing workflows, but we don't commit to a fixed feature set.

Termination

You can stop using the service at any time — there's nothing to cancel. We may suspend access for any individual or IP if abuse is detected. Since there's no account, "termination" usually means we'd block traffic, not delete a record.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the operator's jurisdiction. Disputes that can't be resolved by talking to us should go to the courts of that jurisdiction.
