Terms of Service
Last updated: 7 August 2026
These are the terms for using FileHook. We've kept them short and plain: the goal is a service you can trust, not a wall of boilerplate.
The service
FileHook is a browser-based PDF toolkit. You open a PDF, edit or convert it, and download the result. Most of that happens inside your browser with no upload at all. A few features do send the file to our server, and the privacy policy lists which ones and how long anything is kept.
On top of the editor there are two things that need an account: sending a document to someone else for signature, and a paid plan. The privacy policy covers what we store for each of them.
Who can use it
Anyone with a modern browser. Editing needs no account. By using the service you confirm you're old enough to enter into a contract where you live (typically 13+, or higher in some places).
Accounts
If you create an account, the email address on it must be one you control, and keeping the login safe is your job. An account is for one person. Anything done through your account counts as done by you.
You can delete your account from the account page at any time. We can suspend or close an account that is being used to abuse the service, spam people through signature requests, or work around the free plan's limits.
Free plan and paid plans
The free plan covers every editing tool with clean, watermark-free exports, and allows 10 finished files a day shared across all the tools. Some features have their own free allowance, such as signature requests and receipt conversions. The current split between free and paid is always listed on the pricing page, and that page is what governs.
Pro costs $3.99 per month or $29.99 per year, charged through our payment processor. A subscription renews automatically at the end of each period until you cancel. Cancelling stops the next charge and you keep Pro until the period you already paid for runs out. Prices can change, but not for a period you have already paid.
Deleting your account does not cancel or refund a paid plan. Cancel the plan first, then delete. If a charge went wrong, email us and we'll sort it out.
The invite program
You can invite people with your personal link and earn free days of Pro when they join. A reward only counts when a real new person creates an account and confirms their email. Inviting yourself with a second address, buying signups, bulk posting the link as spam, or scripting fake accounts does not count. We can void rewards and close accounts that do it. Rewards have no cash value and can't be transferred.
Signature requests
FileHook gives you the tooling for electronic signatures: fields on the document, an email to the signer, and an audit trail that records when it was sent, opened, agreed to, and signed. Whether an electronic signature is valid for your particular document, in your country, is your call, not ours. Some documents (wills, certain property and court papers, anything needing a notary) are excluded from electronic signing in many places.
When you send a request you confirm you have a reason to contact the people you're sending it to. Don't use signature requests to send marketing or to email strangers.
Your content
You keep ownership of every PDF you upload and every edit you make. We don't claim any rights over your content. We don't use it to train models, generate datasets, or anything beyond giving it back to you.
You agree not to upload content that's illegal, infringes someone else's rights, contains malware, or is intended to harm others. We reserve the right to delete uploads and block access if we have reason to believe the service is being abused.
Limits
- Up to 50 MB per file.
- 10 finished files a day on the free plan.
- No fixed page cap, but a very long document is limited by your own device, since the work happens in your browser.
- Editing works best on text-based PDFs. Scanned pages need OCR first, which is a Pro feature, and the result depends on how clean the scan is.
- We may apply rate limits to prevent abuse. Normal individual use won't hit them.
Service is provided "as is"
FileHook is provided as-is, with no warranty of any kind. We try hard to keep editing faithful to your original document, but we can't guarantee perfect output for every PDF. There are weird old PDFs in the wild, and we'll occasionally meet one we can't parse cleanly.
Always keep a copy of the original file before you edit. We don't store your file long enough to act as a backup.
Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, FileHook and its operators are not liable for indirect or consequential damages arising from use of the service. If a court decides we are liable, the maximum total liability is capped at the greater of $10 (US) or what you paid us in the twelve months before the claim.
Changes to the service
We may add features, change the interface, adjust limits, or take the service down for maintenance without notice. We aim not to break existing workflows, but we don't commit to a fixed feature set. If we change these terms in a way that matters, the "Last updated" date above changes with them.
Termination
You can stop using the service at any time. With no account there is nothing to cancel. With an account, cancel any paid plan first, then delete the account from the account page. We may suspend access for any account or IP if abuse is detected.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the operator's jurisdiction. Disputes that can't be resolved by talking to us should go to the courts of that jurisdiction.
