Converting PDF to Word — FAQ
Does my PDF leave my device?+
No. The conversion runs entirely in your browser — the PDF is parsed and the Word file is built on the same machine you uploaded it from. Nothing is sent to a server.
Why is it labelled Beta?+
PDF to Word is harder than the other direction because PDFs don't carry semantic structure — we infer it from positions, font sizes, and weights. V1 reliably preserves text, headings, paragraphs, bullet lists, hyperlinks, images, and page breaks across typical resumes, contracts, proposals, and reports. Complex tables, multi-column layouts, and headers/footers are best-effort and we tell you when we couldn't do them justice.
What's preserved and what's not?+
Preserved: text content, bold/italic, headings, paragraphs, bullet and numbered lists, hyperlinks, images, page breaks. Best-effort: complex tables (flattened to paragraphs with a warning), multi-column layouts (reading order follows the PDF's natural flow), exact colors and font families. Not handled in V1: equations, form fields, footnotes, tracked changes.
My PDF came out almost empty — why?+
Almost certainly a scanned PDF. Scans are images of text, not text — there's no text layer for us to extract. Run OCR on the PDF first (we have a tool for that), then convert the OCR'd version. The warning panel will flag this when we detect it.
Is there a file size limit?+
Yes — 50 MB. That covers the vast majority of documents. Bigger files would tax your browser's memory during extraction.
