Unlock a password-protected PDFyour password stays on your device

Drop the locked PDF on the upload card. The tool checks whether the file really carries encryption, then asks for the password.

Type it, press Enter or click Unlock, and the decrypted copy downloads with -unlocked in the file name. Your locked original is still on your device, unchanged.

The tool only works when you supply the correct password. It does not guess, brute force, or recover anything, and there is no hidden way around that: without the password the file cannot be read at all.

Use it on documents you own or have been given the password for, like your own bank statement, a payslip, or a contract someone sent you along with the passphrase. Taking protection off a file that is not yours to open is not what this is for.

Typing a password into a website that then ships your file to a server is a bad trade, especially for the kind of document that gets locked in the first place.

This page does the decryption in the browser tab. The password never travels, the file never travels, and there is no copy of either on our side to keep or delete.

Everything except the lock. Pages, fonts, images, links, comments, and form fields carry over. The file is rewritten without the encryption layer, so its size may shift a little, but nothing on the page changes.

Banks post statements locked with a formula rather than a chosen password: a mix of your date of birth, part of your name, an account or card number, or a customer ID. Once you work out the formula, the statement unlocks like any other file.

That file has the other kind of PDF password. An owner password leaves the document readable by anyone but marks printing, copying, or editing as not allowed, and readers respect that mark.

Removing it still needs the owner password. If you do not have it, ask the person or the office that produced the document, since only they can hand it over.

Then there is nothing to strip. Some files feel locked because a reader shows them read-only, or because the file came from a shared drive with its own permissions. Neither is PDF encryption, and neither survives a download to your own machine.

Passwords are case sensitive. Check for a stray space at the start or end, a keyboard set to another layout, and the difference between the digit 0 and the letter O.

For a document from a bank or a government office, the password is usually built from your own details in a set format. Check the notice or the covering email that came with it before you assume the file is broken.

An encrypted PDF is unreadable until the password is applied, so merging, compressing, or editing it fails before it starts. Unlock it first, do the work on the plain copy, and lock it again at the end if you still need to.

Once the encryption is gone, the file behaves like any other PDF. That is usually the moment to combine twelve monthly statements into one document, or to cut a long file down to the pages someone asked for.

Unlocking and re-locking is the normal way to change a password, since a PDF has no change-password button. Strip the old one here, then encrypt the plain copy with the new passphrase.

Some locked files also block copying. With the lock gone, the text is selectable again, and if you want the whole document as plain words, one pass through the text extractor is quicker than selecting page by page.

It is a web page, so nothing gets installed. Open the file from your downloads, your mail app, or a cloud drive, type the password, and the unlocked copy is saved to your device.

There is no way back through this tool, and no reset link, because nothing about your file is stored here. Bank documents can be re-issued from the bank, and a sender can always resend a file with a password you both know.
