Create a PDF online:start from a blank page

Pick a page size, choose portrait or landscape, and click Create blank PDF. An empty one-page document is generated in the browser and the full editor opens on it right away, with no upload and no waiting.

Click the Text tool, click where you want the words, and type. Drag the block to move it. When the document is finished, download it: the file is clean, with no watermark and no account needed.

Four sizes are offered up front. A4 is 210 by 297 mm and is the default almost everywhere outside North America. US Letter is 8.5 by 11 inches, US Legal is 8.5 by 14 inches, and A5 is 148 by 210 mm, which is the right size for a half-page flyer or a small booklet.

Switch the orientation toggle to landscape before you create the page and the width and height swap over. This is the one to use for a certificate, a table of figures, or a slide-shaped handout. You cannot flip the whole document afterwards from this page, but you can rotate any page inside the editor.

You start with one page. In the editor toolbar, open the Pages menu and choose Insert blank below to add another. Hovering a page thumbnail gives you the same insert button, plus a choice of size for the new page.

The same menu duplicates, rotates and deletes a page, and the thumbnail strip lets you drag pages into a different order.

Open the Images tool and place the picture on the page, then drag the corners to size it. This is how most people add a company logo to a letterhead or a photo to a one-page profile. The image is embedded in the PDF, so it travels with the file.

The Sign tool lets you draw a signature, type one, or reuse one you made earlier, then drop it anywhere on the page. If someone else has to sign, use the Forms tool to place a signature box for them instead of signing yourself.

The Shapes tool covers rectangles, lines and the rest, which is enough to rule a table, box off a section, or draw a simple form layout. Annotate adds highlighter, underline, strike-out and freehand drawing on top. Whiteout paints over anything you want gone.

The Forms tool places real PDF form fields: single-line text, multi-line text, drop-down lists, radio buttons, checkboxes and signature boxes. Someone opening the finished file in any reader can type into them and save their answers.

Not quite, and it is worth knowing before you start. You place text blocks where you want them, the way a layout tool works, rather than typing into one long flowing column.

Text does not reflow from one page to the next. That is perfect for a letterhead, a certificate, a label sheet, a sign or a one-page form. For a ten-page report with flowing paragraphs, write it in a word processor and convert the file instead.

Nothing is added automatically. Inside the editor, the Pages menu has a header and footer panel for running text across the document. If all you need is numbering on a finished file, the page-number tool does it in one pass.

The page works in a mobile browser, so there is no app to install. Picking a size and typing a few lines is comfortable enough on a tablet. Precise placement on a small phone screen is fiddly, which is the honest limit here.

The blank document is made in your browser and every edit stays on your device, so a plain create-and-download never touches a server. Share is the one exception, and it asks first: without an account, that copy is deleted after 2 hours.
