How to convert a PDF to PNG
Three steps cover the common case. The sections below deal with the rest: resolution, transparency, single pages, scans, locked files, and file size.
Turn a PDF into PNG images
Drop one PDF onto the upload card, or click it to browse. The file can be up to 50 MB. The page count appears before you convert, so you know how many images you are about to get.
The file stays on your device. Each page is drawn on a canvas in the browser tab and saved out as PNG from there, so nothing travels to a server and back.
Convert a PDF to PNG at high resolution
A PDF page has no built-in pixel size, so how sharp the PNG is depends entirely on what you render it at. 1x gives 72 DPI, 2x gives 144 DPI, and 3x gives 216 DPI.
Use 3x when the image will be printed, zoomed, or cropped down to a detail. 2x is the right default for screens, slides, and email. 1x is only worth it when you want the smallest possible files.
Why is my PNG blurry or pixelated
The usual cause is converting at 1x. A letter-size page at 72 DPI is around 612 by 792 pixels, which is smaller than most laptop screens, so any zoom shows the pixels. Convert again at 2x or 3x.
The other cause is the source file. A PDF built from a phone photo of a document is already soft, and no render setting recovers detail the camera did not capture.
Will the PNG keep a transparent background
No. Every page is filled with white before the content is drawn on top, so a PDF page becomes a solid white image rather than a cut-out. This is deliberate: PDF pages are laid out as printed paper, and a transparent render would leave the paper itself missing.
If you need a logo or a signature on a transparent background, that is a different job. Take the artwork from the source file it came from, or cut it out in an image editor after converting.
Convert only one page of a PDF to PNG
Every page is converted in one pass and then shown as a thumbnail. Click the page you want and only that PNG downloads, so you do not have to take the whole ZIP.
For a long document where you only need two or three pages, it is quicker to pull those pages out into their own PDF first and convert that.

Convert a multi-page PDF to separate PNG files
Each page becomes its own PNG, numbered in page order and named after the source document. More than one page and the whole set arrives as a single ZIP, so the files stay in order when you unpack them.
Why PNG files are so much bigger than JPG
PNG never throws data away. A page with a photo or a shaded background can come out several times larger than the same page as JPG, and a 3x render of a long report can add up quickly.
Text-only pages compress well, so the gap is smallest exactly where PNG is most worth using. If size is the problem, drop from 3x to 2x before switching format.

Convert a scanned PDF to PNG
Scans convert cleanly, because a scanned page is already an image. You get that image back at the resolution you picked. Rendering above the scanner's own DPI makes a bigger file without adding real detail.
The text in my PNG is not selectable
A PNG holds pixels, not words, so text on the page becomes part of the picture. To get the words back, run the PDF through OCR first and copy the text from there, or extract the text from the original file.

Convert a password-protected PDF to PNG
A PDF locked with a real password cannot be opened for rendering. Rather than producing blank pages, the tool stops and points you at the unlock page. Remove the password, then convert the unlocked copy.

Convert PDF to PNG on a phone or tablet
It runs in the mobile browser, so there is nothing to install. Pick the PDF from your files app, a cloud drive, or a chat attachment. On a phone, 2x is the safe setting for anything long. A 100-page file at 3x is a lot of memory to ask for.
Convert PDF to PNG without a watermark
The images are clean. No logo, no corner badge, no faint diagonal text, on any plan. What comes out is your page and nothing else.
Put the PNG images back into a PDF
Converted a page, edited the image, and now need a document again? The PNGs can go back into a single PDF, one image per page, in the order you choose.

Converting PDF to PNG: FAQ
How do I convert a PDF to PNG for free?
Drop your PDF on the upload card, pick a quality, and click Convert. Each page becomes a PNG. A single-page PDF downloads one PNG; a multi-page PDF downloads a ZIP of every page. No signup.
Is the conversion done in my browser?
Everything renders right in your browser: each page becomes a PNG on your own machine. Your file is never uploaded to a server during the conversion. The only network activity is loading the page itself.
Why choose PNG over JPG?
PNG is lossless, so text and sharp lines stay crisp without compression artifacts. It is the better choice for documents, diagrams, screenshots, and anything you'll zoom into. JPG files are smaller but slightly softer.
What does the quality setting do?
It sets the resolution. 1x renders at 72 DPI, 2x at 144 DPI (sharper, the recommended default), and 3x at 216 DPI for the crispest result. Higher quality means larger files.
Will the PNG have a transparent background?
The pages come out on a solid white background. Each page is painted white before it is drawn, because a PDF page is a printed sheet rather than a layered image, and a transparent render would leave hollow gaps where the paper should be.
Is there a watermark on the images?
Your images come out clean: no watermark, no corner mark, on any plan. Many converters stamp their logo on free downloads; FileHook never does.
Do I have to wait between conversions?
The free plan covers 10 finished files a day, shared across every tool, resetting at midnight UTC. The render still uses your machine rather than ours, so there is no queue and no wait between files. Pro removes the count.
Can I convert a multi-page PDF?
Every page becomes its own PNG. When there is more than one page, all the images bundle into a single ZIP you download in one click. You can also grab any individual page from the result grid.
