What actually goes wrong
Two weeks, then fines
Most cities require registration within fourteen days of moving in. Appointment slots in Berlin, Munich and Hamburg book out well past that, so book the slot before you have the paperwork.
Bring paper
The Bürgeramt is an in-person, paper counter. The value of assembling this pack is that you print one file in the right order rather than discovering at the desk that the landlord confirmation is still in your email.
