What actually goes wrong
The cita previa is the hard part
Slots in Madrid, Barcelona and Valencia are released in bursts and vanish in minutes. Have this pack assembled before you get a slot. The appointment often lands a few days out.
Bring originals and copies
Spanish offices routinely want to see the original and keep a photocopy. Print the pack and carry the originals separately.

Spanish TIE / Foreigner Identity Card questions
Is this the same as getting a NIE?
No. The NIE is the number itself; the TIE is the physical card carrying it, issued to non-EU residents. Many applicants get the number first and the card at a later appointment.
