Bank statement PDF password format, bank by bank
Find your bank, read the format, open the file. Every format below was checked against the bank's own page or two independent sources.
The short answer
There is no one password for bank statement PDFs. Each bank builds it from your own details. The four rules you will see most are: the first 4 letters of your name plus your birth date and month (DDMM), your customer ID, your account number, or your full date of birth (DDMMYYYY).
Search for your bank in the table below. If the file still will not open, the email your statement came in states the exact rule for your account.

How to read these formats
- DDMM is the day and month of your birth, two digits each. 5 March is 0503.
- DDMMYYYY adds the full year. 5 March 1990 is 05031990. DDMMYY uses the last two digits of the year: 050390.
- First 4 letters of your name means the name as the bank has it on the account or card, which is not always how you write it. Check the name printed in the statement email.
- Capital and small letters matter. Some banks want capitals, some want small letters. The table says which.
- Joint accounts almost always use the first holder's details.
How we checked each format
A bank is on this page only if we could read its format on the bank's own website or help page, or on two independent finance sites that agree with each other. Each bank page links the source, so you can check it yourself. The whole list was last checked on 8 October 2026.
Banks change these rules from time to time, and some use more than one rule for different account types. If a format here does not open your file, trust the email your statement came in. It always states the rule for your account.
Some banks are missing on purpose. Where we could not confirm a format, we left the bank out rather than guess.
Banks we checked and left out
For these, read the email your statement came in. It states the password rule. We will add each one when we can confirm it.
- Punjab National Bank (PNB). Sources disagree: one says the 16-digit account number, others say date of birth.
- Canara Bank. Only one source (Customer ID). The bank's app shows the rule when you download.
- IDFC First Bank. Nothing on the bank's site, and no two independent sources.
- AU Small Finance Bank. Sources disagree and none is the bank.
- IDBI Bank. Only one source, and another says the bank publishes no format.
- Indian Bank. Only one source (full account number).
- Bank of India. Only one source, and it does not say capitals or small letters.
- Central Bank of India. Only one source, and another disagrees.
- Bandhan Bank. The bank shows the rule in a pop-up when you download, and does not publish it.
- Bank of Maharashtra. One specific claim, not confirmed anywhere credible.
- Indian Overseas Bank, UCO Bank, Punjab & Sind Bank. No credible source found.
- Equitas Small Finance Bank. The bank's own pages show two different rules.
- Standard Chartered India, HSBC India. The bank pages we read give no format.
- South Indian Bank, Karnataka Bank, Karur Vysya Bank, City Union Bank, DCB Bank, J&K Bank, CSB Bank. No credible source found.
- Kotak, Dhanlaxmi and Emirates NBD credit cards. Sent locked, but the rule is only in the statement email.
- Absa, Nedbank, ADCB, Dubai Islamic Bank, Metrobank. The bank says statements are locked but only gives the rule in the email.
Tired of typing the password every time?
Once you know the password, you can save a copy of the statement that opens without it. Drop the PDF into the unlock tool, type the password once, and download the open copy. The unlocking runs in your browser. The statement and the password are not uploaded. It cannot open a file you do not have the password for.
Bank statement PDF passwords, answered
What is the password for a bank statement PDF?
There is no single password. Each bank builds it from details only you should know. The most common rules are: the first 4 letters of your name plus your birth date and month (DDMM), your customer ID, your account number, or your full date of birth (DDMMYYYY). The table on this page lists the rule for each bank, and the email your statement came in states the rule for your account.
Why is my bank statement PDF password protected?
A statement sent by email passes through inboxes the bank does not control, so the bank locks the PDF. Only someone who knows your personal details can open it. Statements you download yourself after logging in are often not locked, because you already proved who you are.
The password format is right but the PDF still will not open. Why?
Check five things. Capital or small letters, because many banks are strict about it. Your name exactly as the bank has it, which may include an initial or a different spelling. Date and month in the right order, DDMM, not MMDD. The first account holder's details on a joint account. And whether the file is an account statement or a credit card statement, because many banks use a different rule for each.
How do I remove the password from a bank statement PDF?
Open the unlock tool on this site, drop the PDF in, type the password once, and download the unlocked copy. The work is done in your browser, so the statement is not uploaded. The new file opens without asking for a password again.
Can I open a statement if I do not know the password?
No. The tool here only works after you type the correct password. It does not guess or recover passwords. If none of the formats work, ask your bank to send the statement again, or download a fresh copy from net banking.
Do US and UK banks password protect statements?
Mostly no. Chase and Bank of America statements that you download after logging in open without a password, and neither bank has a password formula. Documents sent through a bank's secure email are opened on the bank's secure email site, not with a PDF password.
My bank is not in the table. What now?
We only list a bank when we could check its format against the bank's own website or two independent sources. If your bank is missing, read the email the statement came in. Banks almost always state the password rule in that email.
Type the password once, then never again
Unlock your statement in the browser and keep a copy that opens like any normal PDF.
